The Haiku Stairs in Oahu, Hawaii is about to be removed
The Haiku Stairs, known to travelers as the 'Stairway to Heaven', is located on the Island of Oahu in Hawaii, and is an attraction for thrill seekers across the globe. However it's incredibly unfortunate that it is illegal to walk the stairs since 1987 when it was closed to the public for supposed 'safety reasons'. Now it's even sad and upsetting that the government plans to dismantle the stairs to stop future thrill seekers.
The stairs were built in 1942 as a method to reach the transmission station at the mountain top, used for war time communication. After WW2 the station was converted to a GPS satellite, which at the time were located on high peaks on Earth. Land based satellites are no longer used since the advent of space bound units.
